Compact wide-angle zoom added to the Nikkor mirrorless full-frame range of Z lenses

Nikon Z 14-30mm

Nikon unveiled a new addition to its Z range of lenses for its Z 6 and Z 7 full-frame mirrorless cameras at CES 2019. The Nikkor Z 14-30mm f/’4 S is a super-wide compact zoom – and unusually for a zoom with a wide focal length can be used with a front-mounted filter.

The lens will be the fourth in the Z lens to be launched.. joining the 35mm f/1.850mm f/1.8 and 24-70mm f/4 which are already on sale. Nikon have already committed to launching a further five lenses in the range this year, including the highly-anticapted 58mm f/0.95 Noct. Its Z-mount lens roadmap also promises at least three further Z lenses next year – including a 14-28mm f/2.8.

Features and price

The 14-30mm f/4 is constructed from 14 elements in 12 groups – including four EX elements, four aspherical elements. The lens benefits from Nikon’s Nano Crystal Coat technology, and in addition the flat front element is fluorine coated. The front thread allows the lens to be used with 82mm sized filters – such as polariser and ND grads.

Minimum focus distance is 0.28m, and the diaphragm has seven blades. It measures 89x85mm and weighs 485g.

The Z 14-30mm f/4 S is approximately 28.6% lighter and 32% shorter than the popular F-mount AF-S Nikkor 16-35mm f/4G ED VR , and approximately 51.5% lighter and 35% shorter than the wide-apertured AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED.

The Nikon Nikkor 14-30mm f/4 S will go on sale in April for $1,299.95 / £1,349.
