35-140mm portrait zoom and 35mm f/1.4 prime for Canon and Nikon, 17-28mm f/2.8 wide-angle zoom for Sony
Tamron has announced three new lenses for full-frame cameras: a portrait zoom and 35mm prime for Canon and Nikon DSLRs, and a fast wide-angle zoom for Sony mirrorless.
No pricing or release date has been revealed, but the new optics will be displayed at the CP+ 2019 imaging event in Yohohama, Japan, from 28 February to 03 March.
Tamron 35-150mm f/2.8-4 Di VC OSD (Model A043)
Described by the company as a “fast compact portrait zoom”, this variable aperture lens comes in the Canon EF and Nikon F mount. It offers a relatively fast f/2.8 at the wide end but slows down to f/4 at the long end, making it a little less than speedy at portrait lengths.
It possesses a close focusing distance of 0.45m (17.7 inches) across the zoom range, with Low Dispersion elements and aspherical lenses to minimise aberrations. It also boasts of a Dual Micro-Processing Unit for “optimal AF performance and effective vibration compensation.”
Tamron SP 35mm f/1.4 Di USD (Model F045)
Again designed for Canon EF and Nikon F-mount DSLRs, this prime lens is definitely a fast optic. In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Tamron’s SP lens series, the Model F045 represents “the distillation of Tamron’s accumulated lens-making expertise and craftsmanship,” and “is the embodiment of all optical technology and manufacturing knowhow Tamron has developed to date.” Blimey.
Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD (Model A046)
A fast fixed-aperture zoom, this ultra wide-angle lens was built to make a light and compact marriage with Sony’s E-mount mirrorless system. It has a modest filter size of 67mm, a close focusing distance of of 0.19m (7.5 inches) at the wide end, and Tamron’s RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) stepping motor to deliver quick yet quiet autofocus, making it an appealing lens for videography as well as stills.
